The Innocent by Harlan Coben

While in college, Matt Hunter accidently kills a boy trying to break up a fight.  He spends the next 4 years in prison. Now his life is back on track, he is married, buying a home and his wife Olivia is pregnant.  Then one day Matt recieves a video from Olivia's phone showing his wife with a strange man, doing suggestive things, in a motel room.  Things really go downhill after that.  A nun is killed, a man tailing Matt is found dead and the police are starting to look at the ex-con, Matt Hunter.  The plot is fast paced and I enjoyed this audio book and was surprised at the ending.

The Kitchen Gardener's Handbook

Wednesday, April 4, 2012
Jennifer R. Bartley

I “geek” gardening and cookbooks and this book combines them both!  Bartley combines vegetables into flower gardens for the best of both worlds, food for the table and flowers for your soul.  The book also contains numerous recipes and menus utilizing your fresh produce along with seasonal planting diagrams, tips for planting and monthly garden chore lists.  This is a great guide for gardeners, cooks and flower lovers.  Be sure to try the Pork Tenderloin with Apple and Onion Gravy and the Strawberry-Rhubarb Granola Crumble.  YUM! By Jan H.  Check our catalog

A Dog's Purpose

W. Bruce Cameron

This is a cute book if you have ever owned and loved a dog. It tells the story of a dog who comes back to life three times, always with a changing role. This is a comical and heart wrenching story as told through the dog’s eyes as he tries to figure out his purpose in life. It gives great insight as to the way a dog might think and feel. The underlying current to this book asks you the reader to stop and think about what might be your true purpose.

Beat the Gym

Tom Holland

If you are interested in joining a gym this book is a must read. Tom Holland walks you through what to look for, what questions to ask, gym etiquette, how to use the different machines and my favorite part –what to do when you get there. He gives great examples of exercise routines and motivates you just like a personal trainer would. A great book for those interested in joining a gym and even the lifelong gym member.

B.A . Charnitsky

When Francine Spenser’s  plane crash lands in the mountains, the young business woman must find a way to not only survive, but also  save the pilot too.  She becomes very resourceful over the course of their ordeal.  This story was written by a local author from Pinckney.  It is a predictable love story, well written and a quick easy read.

Catherine Coulter

For those of you who follow Catherine Coulter, FBI agents Dillion  Savich and Lacey Sherlock are at it again in this latest thriller.  This time Savich must figure out what is causing the ghostly apparition appearing to US Senator Hoffman.  The case becomes more involved when people close to the Senator are killed.  At the same time Savich and Sherlock are working on a suspicious drug shortage at Schiffer Hartwin Drug Co. After a break-in and a murder there, things really get complicated.  Although I found the story interesting, I have to say this was not my favorite Coulter novel.

Todd Williams returns to Texas to take over the family ranch "Trailback" after his father's death.  He does so under an anonymous name because he plans on changing the longhorns out for herford cows.  However, he doesn't realize that the other ranchers won't " take to kindly" to the idea. This is a true western with action, a gunfighter and of course a pretty woman.  George Guidall does a great job narrating this story.  You'll laugh at some of the expressions and feel like you are watching an old John Wayne movie!  Check it out for yourself and enjoy.

State of Play (DVD)

Thursday, July 1, 2010

Russell Crowe plays an investigative reporter who is assigned to investigate the murder of a female assistant to an up and coming politician (Ben Affleck).  I found the twists and turns of the plot kept be interested and the end is a real shocker!  Well worth watching.

Taking Chance (DVD)

Thursday, June 24, 2010

This is a true story of the journey home of a fallen soldier.  Lance Corporal Chance Phelps who was killed in Iraq in April 2004.  Kevin Bacon portrays Lt. Col. Michael Strobl who volunteers to escort the body of Chance Phelps to his hometown in Wyoming.  On the journey he experiences many moments of the mourning of strangers.  The respect shown to a fallen soldier is truly touching.  I found this to be a very interesting movie and highly recommend it to all.
