The Christmas Letters

The Christmas Letters is a novella.  A compilation of letters from Birdie Pickett starting in 1944 while her husband is off at war and she is living with her in-laws and raising a new baby far from her home. The letters continue each year and become a Christmas tradition.  They also each contain a recipe and a little history of the recipe. They continue in 1967 with Mary, Birdies’ oldest daughter taking on the tradition, complete with a recipe.  In 1996, Melanie, Mary’s daughter takes over the tradition.  Through all the letters, the reader gets a sense of what life was like in the 40’s and how each generation had it a little easier. You follow the love and loss through the years.  A quick read and it will make you smile this Christmas season.  check our catalog

Meet Jack Reacher, a high level military cop. When he is unexpectedly transferred New Years Eve to a base in North Carolina, the beginning of his troubles start. First, a two-star general is found dead in a cheap motel on New Year's Day.  His briefcase is missing.  Then his wife is murdered a few hours later.  From there the plot twists and turns keeping you guessing "who done it" until the end.  I enjoyed the book very much and look forward to reading other books from the Jack Reacher series.  Check our Catalog.

Deal Breaker

This is the first Myron Bolitar novel. Myron is a sports agent about to sign his #1 client, quarterback Christian Steele, with the Titans and make a hefty commission when things start to go sour. It starts when Christian receives a mysterious phone call from his missing/presumed-dead girlfriend Cassie Culver. Myron starts to investigate and uncovers all kinds of lies and secrets. I found Myron to be funny with all his wisecrack remarks. The story was  interesting and kept you guessing “who done it” until the end.

The Finest Hours (DVD and Blu-ray)

This is an incredible movie based on the true story of the greatest small boat rescue in Coast Guard history. In 1952, in a massive storm, an oil tanker is split in half. The Coast Guard sends their only boat (a small one) out to attempt a rescue. You’ll find it utterly amazing what these men went through. A great movie I’m sure you’ll enjoy.
