Toddler/Preschool

 Drop-In RMP—Read, Music, Play (ages 0-5)
Thursday June 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 & July 6 @ 10:15am - 10:45am
Children attend this class with a parent/caregiver. This program is geared towards infants through young 3 year olds, although all ages are welcome and should enjoy the program. The format will be a mix of fingerplays, songs, and stories.  The program is followed by free play time.

  Toddler/Preschool Dance Party! (ages 2-5)
Wednesday, July 20, 10:15am - 10:45am
Our Dance Party is 20 minutes of non-stop dancing, moving and grooving to both guided interactive and freestyle dance hits followed by a light snack. 

Toddler/Preschoolers may be interested in some of our family programs as well!

A variety of science based activities and experiments that encourage exploration, observation and discovery. Please wear clothing that can get messy!

 Drop-In Toddler/Preschool Dance Party! (ages 2-5)

Our Dance Party is 20 minutes of non-stop dancing, moving and grooving to both guided interactive and freestyle dance hits followed by a light snack. 

  Show Me Nutrition, Presented by MSU- Extension (PreK) 
Wednesdays, July 26, & August 2, 9, 16  10:30am - 11:15am
Preschoolers will have the opportunity to engage in age appropriate, interactive, hands-on activities that promote good eating habits, physical activity and food safety. Through each interesting and fun nutrition class, students will gain the skills necessary to make healthy lifestyle choices.  This is a four-week class presented by MSU-Extension.

Preschoolers may be interested in some of our family programs as well!

  Saving, Spending, and Entrepreneurship Presented by LOC Federal Credit Union (grades 3rd - 5th grade) 
Monday, June 19, Tuesday, June 20, and Wednesday, June 21, 11:30am - 1:00pm
Come join us for LOC Federal Credit Union’s Money Program for Kids, a fun-filled three days of learning financial literacy.  You will learn the difference between wants and needs, plus all about how to save and count your money.  

Drop-In Young Engineers Club (1st-4th grade)

Our Teen Volunteers will present an engineering challenge.  Working in groups participants will problem-solve and design a way to overcome each day’s challenge with supplies such as Legos, string, tape, etc.

Monday, June 26, 10:30am - 11:15am

Love to read?  Come and share what you’re reading, favorite reads, give suggestions to fellow book lovers, and get some suggestions for future reads! This fun interactive club will meet twice this summer – come to one or both meetings to share your passion for reading.

  Book Buddies (1st-3rd grade) 
Tuesday, June 27, July 11, 18, 25,  6:30pm - 7:00pm
An opportunity for your child to practice their reading over the summer.  Each child will be paired with a teen volunteer to read to and do simple activities together.  Knowing your child’s reading level at the end of the school year will be beneficial.

 Summer Chef Class with the Great Foodini (3rd - 6th grade) 
Thursday, June 29, 3:00pm - 4:00pm
This class will explore the best of a Michigan Summer plate - lots of hands-on preparation and sampling.  Of course there will be sweet treats too!  Fun recipes and surprises that students will enjoy over and over again.

Every participant will build their very own custom, stop-motion puppet and bring it to life using the art, and the magic of stop-motion animation.

Design and make your own emoji pillow, no sewing skills required. 

  Rubberband Engineering (4th - 8th grade) 
Thursday, July 13, 2:00pm - 3:00pm
How far can you launch a marshmallow with a catapult made with pencils and rubber bands?  Build one and find out.

 Pokemon Beginner Workshop (ages 6 and up) 
Thursday, July 20, Tuesday, 2:00pm - 4:00pm
For ages 6 and up.  Pre-registration is required.  Participants will gain the knowledge and skills needed to play Pokémon TCG and play in a tournament. Parents are welcome to watch and learn as well.  Participants can either bring their own set of cards or a set will be provided courtesy of Dire Comics. Limited space.  Presented by our partner Dire Comics in Howell.  

 Introduction to Programming (1st - 4th grade) 
Monday, July 24, 4:00pm - 5:00pm, 5:00pm - 6:00pm, or 6:30pm - 7:30pm
Work in pairs (with an older robotics students’ help) to complete one or two challenges with our LEGO Robotics sets.

Longway Planetarium will explore forces and motion with participants as you building a marble roller coaster.

Take and submit your best photo representing "Build a Better World". A Middle School and High School winner will be chosen.

We cleaned out the closet and found some crafts - decorate a candle, make a Pop Art Magnet or felt some wool

What can you cook in a waffle iron?  It's time to experiment and then sample the results.

 STEM Sisters present Social Media for Young Ladies (6th - 8th grade in the fall)
Thursday July 20, 6:00pm - 7:00pm
This class will be presented by STEM Sisters, a local group of female high school robotics students.  Learn how to use and stay safe on social media sites.  More details to come.   Parents are welcome, but not required, to attend.

This event is FREE to anyone who presents a Howell Carnegie District Library Card.  The doors will open at 6:00. Tickets will be issued on a first-come first-served basis. Concessions will be available for purchase.

Exotic Zoo is bringing the zoo to the library! Exotic Zoo will present a Wildlife Education Show featuring Siberian Lynx, Exotic Birds, Fox, Honey Bear, Giant Tortoise, Giant Snake, and more! Bring a picnic blanket, as the Summer Lunch Bunch will serve a picnic lunch 11:30am-12:30 pm.  Meals are on a first come- first served basis.  Anyone 18 and under eats for free. 

Drop-In Rescue Vehicles and More 
Wednesday, July 12, 10:30am - Noon, Weather permitting
Event will take place on the library lot at the north east corner of Clinton and Center Street. We will have a Fire Truck, EMS Vehicle, Tow Truck, Police Car and more special vehicles for you to see and investigate. Bring a picnic blanket, as the Summer Lunch Bunch will serve a picnic meal 11:00 am-12:00 pm.  Meals are on a first come- first served basis.  Anyone 18 and under eats for free.

Drop-In Family Partner Yoga 
Monday, July 24, 10:30am - 11:15am
Join Lisa Cain from SoulShine Yoga for some family/partner yoga.  Bring a yoga mat if you have one.  This class is best suited for children ages 5-10, or those who can easily follow directions for a 45 minute period of time, as well as an adult partner.

Come breathe, laugh, move, and explore with your special kiddo in this class led by Lisa, owner of Howell’s SoulShine Yoga, and her 8 year old daughter. It is sure to be a wonderful time!  This is a class that ANYONE in the family can attend! It would be great for a mom/child, dad/child, or anyone who has a special child in his or her life who would enjoy some yoga play and time to connect.

Drop-In LibCon 2017: The Livingston Libraries Mini Comic Con! The Commons at 2/42 Community Church (7526 Grand River Ave, Brighton)

A family-friendly, free mini-comic con! Meet professional authors and illustrators, showcase your own artwork or collection of all things fandom, enter the cosplay contest, try your hand at fandom based games and crafts, and browse vendor booths. Presented by the Brighton District Library, Hartland’s Cromaine Library, and the Howell Carnegie District Library.

Bring a picnic blanket, as the Summer Lunch Bunch will serve a picnic meal 4:00-6:00pm.  Meals are on a first come- first served basis.  Anyone 18 and under eats for free.  The Summer Lunch Bunch is a collaborative community meals program that meets all over Livingston County during the summer recess.
