Progressive Discipline Procedure

Progressive Discipline Procedure

When someone violates the Library Rules of Conduct, his or her use of the library building and grounds and services may be rescinded. When use of library building, grounds and services are rescinded for violating the Library Rules of Conduct, the following Progressive Discipline Procedure is followed:

First offense - library use rescinded for a minimum of one month.

Second offense if it occurs within one year of the first offense - library use rescinded for a minimum of three months.

Third offense if it occurs within one year of the second offense - library use rescinded for a minimum of one year.

The library director or designated staff members, shall have the authority to rescind library use for a longer period than that described above, if in his or her opinion, the violation of the rules of conduct justifies a longer period of rescission.

A Rescindment of Library Use form will be completed by library staff after each offense. A note will be added to a Library User's library record reflecting the rescinding of library use, including borrowing privileges after each offense.

After any offense, the involved parties can petition the Library Director regarding an early reinstatement of library use by completing a Petition to Reinstate Library Use form. Such forms are available in the library administrative office. Completed Petition to Reinstate Library Use forms will be reviewed by the Library Director and a decision by the Library Director will be given to the parties who complete the Petition to Reinstate Library Use form. If the involved parties are not satisfied with the decision of the Library Director, they can request to be put on the agenda for a review by the Library Board of Trustees at a regularly scheduled Board meeting.
