Laptop In-Library Checkout

To check our a laptop for use within the Library, patron must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Present BOTH a state-issued ID and a Howell Carnegie District Library card.
  • Have less than $10 in fees, no billed items, or blocks on library card account. No exceptions.
  • Laptops are available at the Information Desk on a first come, first served basis and cannot be reserved.
  • Checkout period is 2 hours or until 30 minutes before closing, with no renewals.
  • By checking out a laptop or the cardholder agrees to the library's Internet Acceptable Use Policy.
  • Patron data must be saved to removable or web storage. Any files saved to a device will automatically be erased when the device is shut down. The library is not responsibile for lost or stolen files. The cardholder is responsible for the safety of their personal information.
  • Do not leave laptop unattended. You are responsible for the laptops and accessories checked out on your library card.
  • The cardholder is responsible for lost or missing laptops or accessories, as well as for any and all damages incurred during checkout. Fees will be assessed on an individual basis depending on cost of repair or replacement.*
  • Immediately report loss of, problems with, or damage to a laptop to the Information Desk. Do not attempt to troubleshoot problems.
  • Do not use laptop around food and drink.
  • Please return the laptop to the Information Desk STILL TURNED ON.


*Replacement costs:

  • laptop - $800.00
  • power cord - $10.00
  •  HCDL Laptop users, including minors, are forbidden from using this equipment for any illegal activity.
  •  HCDL Laptop users agree to hold HCDL harmless for any damage related to using this equipment.
