Mo Willems

Mo Willems has yet to disappoint me with his array of incredibly funny and well-crafted characters. Early on Willems engaged us with The Pigeon Books and Knuffle Bunny.  Now that my daughter has begun the transition from complete listener to beginning reader, we are constantly looking for books that amuse us.  Knowing that learning to read can be not only exciting but challenging, I was happy to find the highly comical Elephant and Piggie Books.  In Should I Share My Ice Cream?  Gerald, the elephant, has to make a big decision and he struggles with doing the right thing.  Reading this story aloud offered a good use of sight words and also lead to great conversation about the dilemma Gerald is faced with.  What a great use of bedtime reading for multiple “teachable” moments!
