Heart and soul : the story of America and African Americans

This is a true jewel.  The oil paintings that illustrate this chronology are stunning.  Nelson spends only a few pages on each chapter of our history, but does so eloquently.  He tells the history from the point of view of an old granny telling stories.  He starts with the first Africans that came to this land in the mid 1500's and ends with an African American becoming President.  Many chapters, including the one on reconstruction deal with parts of our history that we don't speak about much, while others deal with those most of us are quite familiar with.  This is a wonderful introduction for anyone interested in learning about how our country has been shaped over the past 500 years.  Check our catalog
